For the orth-preterists, when it says new heaven/new earth, old ones passed, etc...How is this understood in the O.P paradigm?

It tells us that God is making all things new. Rev.21:5 "for the old order of things has passed away." (at the same time when all things are made new) Rev. 21:4

Are the two questions asking essentially the same thing? How do you "re-create a new realm"? Aren't you just creating a new realm?

I think it revolves around refreshing the old one. Starting with our new birth (being made a 'new creation') it is not starting something brand new, but redeeming that which was there before. So it is with creation (Romans 8). He says he is "making all things new" and not, "Behold, I am making all new things." We, along with creation, will be made 'new again'. Much like your "This Old House" scenario.
