I've scanned the Hugh Williams' translation of the works of Gildas, and placed them online at <http://www.tertullian.org/fathers>. I omitted the Latin text, and the medieval Vitae, and the majority of the massive annotation. Online are
+ The Ruin of Britain
+ The Penitentary of Gildas
+ The Lorica of Gildas
+ Fragments of lost letters by Gildas.
It's a bit after the patristic period, but then it looks back over the end of it. And it does record the start of 'Celtic' Christianity, if you like.
All the best,

thanks much!
PS - you mentioned a 39 volume collection of ECF. i know of a 38 volume set (which i plan to get 'soon' - $299 from christianbook.com). is this the same set? or is the 39 volume set different, or a new edition, of this one?)

You're welcome!

Actually I don't have a copy, so I could have been mistaken about the number of volumes. But there is only the one set. I think that index volumes might be tampered with, tho, so some have better stuff in these than others. There are several versions, I think, but the works remain the same. Get the ones with the white stuff on the spines. The Eerdmans ones are more original, but look a bit dull on the shelves; the newer ones certainly revised the Ante-Nicene Fathers index volume (which is either vol. 9 or 10, depending on flavour).
I hope you've seen the volumes before you buy? The typeface is old-fashioned, and the works come printed in two columns. I find the works easiest to read if printed off in a modern typeface. On the other hand, a complete set is certainly easier to read in bed.
I only have the Tertullian volumes (3 & 4) myself.
All the best,
Roger Pearse
