The key to success and humility isn’t the knowledge of what we can do it’s knowing what we can’t do!

“Pete,” a man said into his telephone, “Can you take help me out with a little problem?” Pete, a mechanic at a local garage answered back, “Sure Hank bring it in around 3:00 PM today I’ll have time to fix it for you.” Later that day as he was walking back to the garage Pete watched a tow truck pulling Hank’s car into the parking lot. The tow truck operator stopped the truck unhooked the car and drove off. Hank and Pete walked up to the car opened the hood. Looking at only the engine block Pete exclaimed, “Good Lord! What happened Hank?” Looking rather sheepishly Hank replied, “Oh I knew I could fix it myself but I discovered after it was to late I couldn’t. I saved all the parts however they’re in the trunk.”

Sometimes when our lives break down we think ourselves to be “a Jack of all trades” and try to fix it ourselves. Divorce courts, Bankruptcy courts, Drug and Alcohol hospitals are full of people who thought themselves able to fix their own lives.

Jesus said of himself, “By myself I can do nothing; I can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just, because I seek to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me.” {John 5:30 NJB}

The Apostle Paul whose story is one of the greatest success stories in the Bible once said, “I came among you in weakness, in fear and great trembling and what I spoke and proclaimed was not meant to convince by philosophical argument, but to demonstrate the convincing power of the Spirit, so that your faith should depend not on human wisdom but on the power of God.” {1st Corinthians 2:3 - 2:5 NJB}

Follow the example of Jesus and the genius of Paul and take the road to success and humility. Follow the example of Hank and wind up disassembled in a trunk!
