I have a question about Christmas. Is that the day Christ was born? How do we know? I heard from someone that they said usually in Jewish tradition the death of someone is more important than their birth. She was talking about Christmas. So Christmas is just the day we remember Christ? Or is it the day He was born or died?

We don't know when Christ was born. Based upon the location of Bethleham and that shepherds were there, people posit either late spring or early fall, but we really don't know. (Oddly enough, based upon historical data, Jesus was almost certainly NOT born in 0AD.)

December 25th was chosen to give Christians a celebration when other religions and traditions were having celebrations of light, hannakah(sp?), winter solstices and such, to create opportunities for Christians to share their faith with others during a time when they would be open to hearing the gospel.

Hi Sun! Thanks for the question!

TheMuzicMan has already given a very accurate answer. Sun. This is the main thing I'd tell you. We don't know when Christ was born, but we've chosen this day to celebrate it. Now if someone wants to say it was a pagan holiday, then I would simply say "And God took what was intended for evil and used it for good, just like he takes us who are evil and redeems us for good!"

The main thing is this. Worship of Christ is not just to be done on Christmas. It is to be done year-round.

Hope this helps!
