After receiving some very bad news an old man got into his pickup truck and headed for a nearby bridge where he would find an end to his woes. "I’m so tired of carrying all these burdens the only way I can get rid of them is to throw myself off with them."
About a quarter of a mile down the road he noticed a man carrying a heavy pack on his back. As he neared the man he could see his labored walk. "How far ya going stranger," without thinking he asked?
"Glenington," came the reply.
The old man thought for a moment, "I’m going right through Glenington. Wanna ride?"
"Sure do friend this pack is getting heavier and heavier," the man said.
The old man didn’t feel like talking so he told the man the sit on the back of the truck. "Don’t worry," he said, "The road is smooth and I’ll take it easy."
"Okay," the man said getting into the back of the truck.
Putting the truck into gear the old man headed off down the road still thinking about all his burdens. Looking in the rearview mirror he noticed the man still had the pack on his back, "Why don’t he take the pack off and put it on the truck bed," he asked himself?
Suddenly the pack became so heavy the man fell out of the truck. The old man slammed on the brakes opened the door and ran back to where he man laid on the road. "You all right," he asked?
"Yup! I should have taken off this pack and let you carry it in your truck though," he answered back.
Suddenly a white dove flew by and the man heard a voice calling out to him, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." And the man recognized the words as Jesus’ from a sermon he heard long ago.
Looking heavenward the man began, "Jesus I am so sorry for trying to live with out you. Can you find it in your hear to forgive me and help me with my burdens?" Instantly the man felt as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Remembering the man who had fallen from his truck he opened his eyes but the man was gone. Looking in all directions he as nowhere to be seen. Another dove flew and the man knew he had been touched by God.
The preceding story is your story and it is my story. How could Jesus say his burdens were light? It’s simple he never done anything without God. It only makes sense then that we do nothing without Jesus!
Have a Jesus Day!
