For those ignorant of anything Canadian, York is the second biggest University in Toronto (after UofT itself). Anyway, I grabbed one of the far left rags (Excalibur) York's students put out to have something to read on my way home. What originally caught my eye was what I assumed would be some race baiting article, but I ended up ignoring it altogether for something else on the main page:
Abortion Debate Banned.
Since I can only reprint two paragraphs, I'll just summarize instead:
A representative of the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (Jose Ruba) was to debate a representative of Freethinkers, Skeptics and Atheists at York's Michael Payton (take a guess as to who was taking which side :teeth:). The Student Center, however, canceled the debate at the last minute. Student Center vice-chair Kelly Holloway said, and I quote:
"The reason is that it's an equity concern for the Student Center. Having a debate over whether or not women should be able to choose what to do with their own bodies is tantamount to having a debate about whether or not a man should be able to beat his wife"
The Student Center's Dark Lord council voted unanimously to cancel the debate.
Both of the debaters were annoyed at the cancellation, and the atheist debater (who seems to be way smarter than the entire school council put together) said that Holloway unwittingly hurt their own cause by canceling it.
