Senator Obama made this statement in response to a question at a townhall meeting in Pennsylvania this past weekend:

Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old," he said. "I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information.

How does someone's value for a baby, the natural and predictable possibility of sex, become so casual that, even offhandedly, a baby can be described as a punishment rather than a precious life? Shouldn't we encourage our daughters, if they should become pregnant out of wedlock, that they can actually do a wonderful thing in giving life to the baby and a blessing to a couple who can't have children otherwise because that life is precious? A baby, the child, is never a punishment. It may be a consequence. But it demeans that life to call the baby a punishment that should be dodged by abortion. A punishment can be avoided by getting rid of the baby because it has no value. It's more important to avoid punishment than to value the baby's life.

Abortion influences our value for life. And this is a logical result. You can't value the human life of a baby as an objective fact to be respected and call it a punishment. I'm suspicious of any claims to value a baby, but still support abortion rights for whatever reason when a baby can be called a punishment.

Truly vile. You couldn't pay me to vote for him.

Oh, I finally get it! I was confused for a while because it seemed that everything in the box following "this past weekend:" was a quote of Obama. It makes much more sense to me after realizing that just the one paragraph was the quote, and the 3rd and 4th paragraphs are a response to Obama.

I was going to say I didn't understand why you are so upset, because what "Obama says" in the latter two paragraphs seems spot on, though seemingly contradictory with the preceeding paragraph.

Ah, the world makes sense once again.
And, yes, Obama's comment is vile. Ron Paul for president!

And people seem to laud him as the next Jesus figure? No, never, not on my watch. First he follows a racist minister, and then he describes a small person as a punishment. No.

The "s in the box are not clear. It looks the entire box is an Obama quote.

I'm pretty sure he agrees with babies as "punishment" if the "punished" party, who is being "forced to be a parent," is a man who will have to pay large substantial sums to support a child even if he didn't agree to be a father.

Men don't have a crazy "Men's rights" faction to make arrogant demands like women do, so it's acceptable to be sane and normal on the subject of fatherhood.

I know! It's ridiculous! I've reached the point where I believe that he's no better than Hillary. The only differences between him and Hillary are: he's a man; he's African-American; and he's an eloquent, soft-spoken speaker. Otherwise ...

Apparently, Obama has forgotten the following verse.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127:4-5)

Perhaps he's never heard this quote:

The Bible calls debt a curse and children a blessing. But in our culture we apply for a curse and reject blessings. Something is wrong with this picture. (Doug Phillips)

Hm...I kind of thought the point was that we should educate our kids about sex, abstinence, and contraception because lack of said education could result in unwanted pregnancies. Whether or not pregnancies are ever undesirable or "bad," the point is that many young men and women could easily view pregancy as a sort of punishment. Education would help curtail pregnancies of this kind. Therefore, we ought to educate our children about sex.

I think we should spend more time educating them about personal accountability. People need to be aware of and respect the possible consequences of stupid actions. The liberal mindset says that we can't prevent people from doing stupid things, so instead of teaching them to not be stupid, we should instead focus on protecting them from the consequences of their stupidity. This can only lead to more and more stupid people, which I suppose is exactly what those in power on the left are looking for.

I agree that educating kids on personal accountability is important. And I think we can keep kids from having sex with the right kind of education. However, one cannot understand accountability unless one understands what one is accountable for, and that requires understanding one's options and what the possible consequences of our actions will be. And if you think high school kids aren't having sex, they are. I went to a Christian HS back in the day, and that didn't make much of a difference to a lot of kids.

Oh and let's keep conspiracy theories out of it. The left is not looking to keep people stupid.
