One day a very rich socialite received an invitation that read as follows:
Dear Sir,
You are cordially invited to join the most exclusive club in the world. We will send a limo to pick you up Tuesday at 7:00 PM and it will take you to 1456 Oakview Drive please make preparations to join us.
Sincerely Yours,
The Membership Committee
At first the man was skeptical after all he'd heard of all the exclusive clubs and had joined them all. "Perhaps this is a new one just starting up," he thought to himself, "Maybe I can become a charter member." Immediately the man began making preparations and calling his tailor he had a new tuxedo custom made. Two days later at precisely 7:00 PM long white limousine picked him and to take him to 1456 Oakview Drive.
Half an hour later the man was standing in front of a church, "A church I wonder what's going on," the man asked himself, "Oh, well this club is so new they've had the borrow a building now I know I'll be a charter member!"
Minutes later as the man walked through the door he stood in unbelief the large room was filled with what the man usually referred to as the scum of the earth. Turning to leave a lady walked up to him and said, "Please don't leave we'd like you to join our club." The man cleared his throat, "There must be some mistake," he started, "I've an invitation to the worlds most exclusive club but all I see here is bums and low life's." The woman smiled, "Your in the right place sir. This club is for those who exclusively call themselves a sinner. Once you're signed up we'll send you into the reception hall where you can meet our Host." Turning to leave the man exclaimed, "Look lady I do not belong to this club. I don't know what your game is but you can leave me out!"
Seconds later the man opened the exit door and walked into another exclusive club just for him that one was called hell!
Now while he was at table in the house it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners came to sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your master eat with tax collectors and sinners?" When he heard this he replied, "It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick. Go and learn the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice. And indeed I came to call not the upright, but sinners." {Matthew 9:10 - 9:13 NJB}
