So I am in a hurry and I put the birds in their cages. I go around and do some other things and then I walk by the kitchen. What do I see on the counter? Annie's food bowl. Oh crap. So I grab the bowl and go to the bird room, and there is Annie sitting on her perch and just staring down at the place where her food should be. And when I walk up she looks up at me with a look that just has so many feelings in it, like reproach, betrayal, broken trust.

One day I was on a plane (back when they were flying)) and I could hear a bird peeping. I asked the guy aside of me and it was his bird. He really loved that little bird. His wife had died that year and the bird was his "best buddy". I mean it wasn't like a real animal -- a dog or something -- but he really loved it. I was greatly touched!

I remember a few years ago, there was a news story on tv about a cow that had fallen into a deep puddle and needed help from people to get out.
The news reader said, "The other cows looked on in hope and fear as the rescuers pulled their fellow cow out of the pond".
:ahem:
When my cat started going blind, my mother commented, "Oh the poor thing! How terrible she must feel that she is losing her sight!"
I replied, "Mom, she's a cat. She doesn't know she's going blind. As far as she knows, this is normal for cats. As far as she knows, this is normal for people."
It's funny how we put our own feelings onto our animals.
But, shame on you, Deeds, for forgetting Annie's food!

I think she was just hungry.

Parrots are very intelligent. My Grandfather had this cockatoo and normally he was mean as hell. A real grumpy bird. One day me and my sister started lavishing attention on the dog. The bird started squawking and jumping up and down.
So we figured he must need attention. Sure enough, we turned our back on the dog and started cheering and saying nice things about the bird. He did all sorts of "tricks" like swinging upside down jumping, saying "GEORGIE" (his name).
So then we turned back to the dog, who by this time was running around in circles trying to get our attention. The Cockatoo saw us ignoring him again and started making a racket trying to get our attention.
So we turned to him and the dog started running around in circles, barking, trying to get our attention.
This went on, back and forth, for about 15 minutes

And the dog and the bird were highly entertained for 15 minutes.

I just picked up my dog who I boarded for the weekend while I visited my sister. He has separation anxiety, so I thought he would be extra excited to see me. He could have cared less. He didn't even pay me any attention until we were almost home.
