  • Mac Attack!

John Reece is having trouble logging into his new Mac. His description is below.

Anyone have any good ideas that might help John out? Since he's been on the phone with tech support we can probably dispense with 'reboot' and 'is it plugged in'.

And I'll refrain from suggesting that a PC is a lovely gift...

It was by sheer accident that I came across your email above this morning as I am trying to learn haw to use my iPad instead of the iMac. It is extremely tedious for me and I will not be doing any more for a while after I send this.

sounds like he just needs to come up with a password he has not used before. That should be easy enough to do.

ah never mind. I see he says he is locked out now.

I have no idea about that then.

      never mind.

Three different telephone tech support people struck out over a period of a week or more, including a supervisor at Apple. The universal consensus was that the only recourse was to take the new iMac to the nearest Apple Store, which is 60 miles(?) away in Raleigh.

After waiting for weeks to regain enough energy to make the trip, one of the geniuses at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store reset the password in a few seconds time, and sent me on my way with a subsequent phone appointment later that day with a telephone tech rep to explain to me all I needed to know about various kinds of Apple passwords, pass-codes, etc.
