A while back our cat Highlander tried to bring in a chipmunk. I was away in class at the time, but apparently my mother yelled at him to prevent him from taking it in (the thing was limp and looked dead), startled Highlander (the cat), who then dropped the chipmunk, who then scurried off and ran up a nearby tree. Highlander is apparently too fat or simply doesn't know how to climb trees, so it got away,
Now, today, again while I was away at class, my mother heard a high pitched scream, and went outside to find Higlander at the door with a baby bunny. She yelled at him, he dropped it, but this one was too badly injured to run off, probably paralyzed after being bitten in the neck. Needless to say, wanting to put the poor critter out of its misery, my mother placed the bunny in a plastic bag and swung it at the wall (she'd have broken it's neck, but it was bleeding and she didn't want to have to go in to get rabies shots again*). The bunny somehow survived that, so she put the bag inside of another, and pushed all of the air out. It is dead now.
