View Full Version : Winning the support of Evangelical voters

Assuming that John McCain is unable to win the hearts and minds of Evangelical voters this year, do you forsee a rising politician who might win their support in the years ahead? The reason I ask is that Louisiana's Bobby Jindal and Sam Brownback from Kansas seem to support many of the issues that Evangelicals support, yet both of them are converts to Catholicism. Would this be a stumbling block in winning Evangelical political support? If so, who else do you think could win that support?

The Evangelical vote will become increasingly irrelevant in the future. McCain still needs to reach out to them this year without associating himself with Dubya. If he can do that then he deserves to be president.
Btw, we may still have a Mormon for VP.

I was wondering about the increasing irrelevancy of the Evangelical vote as well or even if there is such a creature as the Evangelical vote. In fact, many political commentators are talking about Obama's need to win the Catholic vote if he is to win the presidency this year, but several Catholic commentators have said that the Catholic vote is a myth. Catholics have always tended to vote along class lines rather than religious lines and are highly suspicious of church leaders who try to force them into a block vote. I don't know if this is true of Evangelical voters.

Evangelical voters have split over the last 4 years, and little of it has to do with Bush and everything has to do with the emergent movement. While most Evangelicals have rejected the movement as a whole, many have picked up the critique that Evangelicals have been labeled Red State people when in reality we should be Purple.
