Teach me, Rosey Posey, teach me!!!!

The first thing you have to do is go to the fabric store and buy a whole bag full of little bits of fabric that you like. You may never use most of it, but that doesn't matter right now. Quarter yards should be sufficient.
You must continue to follow this first step until you have no more room in your whole house to store the fabric you have purchased. (You may need to take out a personal loan to buy the fabric and/or a new house to store it in).

Then come and talk to me again. :highfive:

Seriously, Good on you DD! As expensive as clothing is nowadays, it pays to sew if you have the time.

I think I will let them continue to think that.

I guess they're not aware of sharp scissors, pins and needles, hot irons and the occasional sewing machine needle through the finger. That last one certainly doesn't bring about "kind" or "gentle".

Actually, or as my 5yo would say, Atchoo-wee, I have a bunch of fabric. In fact I already have two quilts which need to be finished. One of them, a twin size sampler, I started in 1994 and am almost finished - come quickly cold winter!

I am disappointed in how that one is turning out. My quilt stitches seem too big and I'm not sure how to close the fourth edge without making it look stoopid.

The other one is still in the piecing stage. We found it in a bag at my Grandma's after she died. Some friend of hers gave it to her to finish back in the fashion-barren 70's, from the look of the fabric. puke

I have great difficulty with self control in the remnant section of the nearest fabric store. "I don't have the money for more junk I won't use this decade ... But I want it!!!" :ponder:

Don't worry about your stitches. As you do more, you will get better at it. The first quilt I did it seemed the stitches were all way too long, but I did get better as time went by. And, with a smaller quilt, you could consider machine quilting......goes a lot faster.

How did you finish the other three sides?

Well I am almost done with a very cute skirt. If I can get my scanner to work again, I will put up a pic of it. I successfully put in a zipper and am having through a waistband :yipee: Goodbye being limited to the world of elastic waistbands!!!

Next learning adventure....

Sleeves!!!

I'll need major advice on what to use if I ever go that route again. I tried making a quilt for my niece and used my machine on the bulk of it. I started falling apart almost immediately. It's sitting in pieces on my sewing desk. :bawl: It was sooo cute. I made it from pieces of fabric we found at my Grandma's after she died. She used to make the grandkids all kinds of stuff.

How did you finish the other three sides?

I sewed them, right sides together, with my machine.

But it's so therapeutic!!!!! :lmbo:

I kid you not, I was ready to immerse myself in therapy this morning! I stopped by a craft store to return scissors and pick up a couple of other things. I had such a hard time simply taking care of business and leaving!!!

Esther, I would be so happy to give you any advice you need. I am not an expert by any means, but I have done machine and hand quilting, and might be able to help you out.

I decided to do another skirt. I had to alter that one cause I do not have standard proportions. I have a very small waist which is not the standard proportion for my hips. So I had to take in the waist, what a pain! Well I want to practice again on another one. I got some heavier fabric, denim with velvet designs, which I have never worked with before. Wish me luck and sanity.

The eggs are those plastic Easter eggs with rhinestones glued on them. Quite tacky. Quite right up my alley.

I dug out some older sewing projects, you know that half-finished stuff in bags in the sewing box... and I had this pair of pants from Christmas last year to finish. Guess all I had to do? Tack up the hem. Sigh. How lazy could I be last year. And I don't even have TWeb to blame cause it didn't exist yet.
