One day two friends started on a journey to a distant land after walking several hours they found themselves at a junction. To the right the road was narrow and rugged to the left wide and smooth. The first friend turned to the second, “Which way do you think we should go,” he asked. The second man having been schooled in modern technology pulled a small electronic device from his pocket push a couple of buttons and confidently replied, “To the left.”
“What that thig-a-ma-jig,” the first man asked? Smiling because of his superior knowledge the second man replied, “That thig-a-ma-jig as you call it is a GPS. In lay terms that stands of Global Positioning System and it tells me the best way to go is to the left.” Unimpressed by the second man’s seemingly technological expertise he raised his head and looked into sky and remained silent.
The second man impatiently waited for an answer or some comment from his friend but the first man didn’t move. After several minutes the first man turned facing his friend and said, “We must go to the right, we will not reach our destination going to the left.” Thrusting the tiny electronic device into his friend’s face the second man replied, “See the GPS says to go left! The way is smoother so we can move faster.”
After a few more moments of silence the first man spoke out, “I know you’ve all the modern technology with your GPS but the journey we’re on may get have hidden dangers undetected by your instrument. My GPS may be old but it’s far more dependable than the new fangled stuff. We should go to the right even though it seems to be the harder way to go.”
The second man responded instantly, “Your GPS! All you did was look up at the clouds for a few minutes! What’s your GPS invisible or something,” he said between laughs.
Without so much as a smile the first man said, “There have been skeptics since the days when Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt but God’s Piloting System always led them in the right direction never letting them down. That GPS is still available to anyone who will check with the Creator who knows all and sees all. My GPS says to go right.”
At first the second man couldn’t think of anything to say but then a thought occurred, “Let’s put your GPS up against my GPS. You follow yours and go right and I’ll follow my and go left. Do ya think yours is up to it,” he asked?
“I do not have to nor will I put my GPS to a test. I hope you will put aside your seemingly superior technology for one that’s proved itself for thousands of years. If you choose to go left my prayers will go with you my friend,” the first man replied.
Momentarily the second man had thoughts of going to the right but suddenly he grabbed by one of the most powerful forces on anyone’s journey, pride. “Do what you want my friend I’m going to the left. I’ll wait for you at the end of our journey.” By this time the sun was beginning to drop below the horizon so each man set out walking by the light of the full moon.
Three hours later the first man entered the city they were going to the second man had not arrived. Five hours later the man became worried about his friend and set out to find him. An hour later the man came upon a narrow canyon and across the canyon was a swinging bridge. Just before stepping onto the bridge was a sign that said, “Do Not Enter Middle of Bridge Out.” Running to the edge of the canyon the man quickly looked down and hundreds of feet below lay his friend.
He split the sea and brought them through, made the waters stand up like a dam; he led them with a cloud by day, and all the night with the light of a fire; he split rocks in the desert, let them drink as though from the limitless depths; he brought forth streams from a rock, made waters flow down in torrents. {Psalms 78:13 – 78:16}
When thinking about life’s journey do you depend on Global Positioning System or God’s Piloting System?
Technology will always become obsolete while the Unchanging God will always be State of The Art.
