O.k. so the question is "why do liberals oppose nuclear power?". I have noticed in my own country (namely Canada) that the liberal party has been big on Kyoto for the past few years yet has discouraged nuclear development. Considering that nuclear power is kind of a Canadian staple (it provides approximately 25% of our power) why do Liberals oppose it given that it is also one of the cleaner forms of energy? This is stumping me! :ahem:
Would love to get some responses on this one (I am personally very supportive of nuclear power)

liberals want to call themselves progressives, but yet they seem to want to see the human race regress. if we consistently applied their energy policy (no coal, no oil, no gas, no nukes) we'd return to a second stone age.

And we would charge ourselves a lot doing it.
I started this thread to point out how hypocritical Liberals are to whine about the enviroment while opposing the only real feasible solution to energy demands if they want to cut emmisions. :teeth:

I am a liberal, and I do not oppose nuclear power. Your poll had no options for me!

Anecdotaly, most anti nuke people I've known have been conservative. The liberals I know are generally better educated than the conservatives I know though, and ignorance is the root reason for the opposition.

You're british, you don't know any conservatives.
Alternatively, if you met these people online chances are they're not conservative but libertarian. Libertarians have a huge contingent of imbecilic conspiracy theorists.

Real life. They are many. They are pro Monarchy and indifferent about gun rights but otherwise are like really really whiny American conservatives. At least the ones who read the Daily Mail and believe what's inside are, and those are the ones who hate nuclear power, GM crops, nano technology, the MMR vaccine and everything else they are told to fear.
You're right about internet libertarians though. Every single 9/11 conspiracy theorist I've heard identified as a libertarian. It is a mystery.
