Do your kids believe in the tooth fairy?
That was the only load I ever bought off my parents when I was young.... I never believed in Santa, because we had no chimney.... and somehow it just didn't make sense that he would come in through our oven to bring gifts.
But the tooth fairy was different...... she got UNDER MY PILLOW to get my tooth, and left me money, and I NEVER EVEN CAUGHT HER, she was so slick. I just knew she had to be real....
until that fateful night.... I was like 9 years old......in the midst of my sleep, I heard change jangling, felt a hand under my pillow, and lo and behold: my mother leaning over my bed.
I was so bummed about that....traumatized, even. I felt so let down. But my mom gave me like 2 bucks so I quickly got over it and it was all good.
I haven't told my kids there is a tooth fairy.... but I did lie to my little girl and tell her that God sends someone angelic to collect the tooth and leave her money..... that was a big mistake, because she immediately started praying for Him to give her 100 bucks for each tooth. Because I had always felt uneasy about telling her it was God (that can lead to really messed up thinking about God... not to mention that it just isn't true, and I am hoping this girl will actually believe in Him one day on her own)... I told her the truth.... that it was really me.
She didn't believe me at first, thinking that she would have caught me by now... she has lost 3 teeth already! But then accepted it and wasn't bothered by it too much, after I set her straight about God and telling her why I had told her that. So, then, we made a game out of it.....
From now on, she still puts the tooth under the pillow at night..... I sneak in when I think she's asleep.... and if she doesn't catch me, I give her a dollar a tooth.
If she wakes up and catches me, I have to give her 3 dollars.....
so, that's my new tradition in my house.... and it is so exciting for her!
So what do you guys do when your kids lose teeth?

I'm 19 so I don't have any kids but my mom was slick as snot. I never caught her! Actually she still leaves easter baskets on my bed on easter and I don't catch her....which is impressive considering I have my own apartment now! I thought it was great (the tooth fairy thing) but I knew it wasn't really a fairy because I always got floss or mouth wash and my friends always got money. I knew the tooth fairy wouldn't discriminate like that!

*spell check is not working right now so all the mispelled words are just typos okay!

Oh, man..... you totally got ripped off! What a bummer.
At least she makes it up to you by still leaving you an easter basket!

I got totally ripped off! My friends would go out and buy stuff with their tooth fairy money and I would floss....it was a sad sad childhood.....

With my older girls I did the tooth fairy thing r00bz...but it never devastated them that I'm aware of. Eventually I stopped doing it and with my other kids....when they lose a tooth, they get a warning..."if you don't brush them, they fall out!"

I joke and tell my kids the tooth fairy is a 6'2 guy named Phil...

and leave them $1 for all teeth, but $5 for top front 2.

I don't remember when I stopped believing in the tooth fairy. I grew up sharing a room with 3 siblings...we were in 2 sets of bunk beds, so there was always a good chance someone would catch Mom. I don't recall it happening.

I found out there was no Santa Claus when my next door neighbor showed me where her parents hid the gifts (in the basement, above the drop ceiling tiles!). When I told my Mom about it, she said, "Okay, listen, your sisters still have at least a year to go...don't ruin it for them." Of course, kids can be unbelievably cruel, so the next time my sister got on my nerves, I screamed, "...and there's no Santa Clause, either!" before I slammed the door and ran outside. I'm better now.

I don't think my folks ever give us kids the line about Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy or any of that stuff.

My parents were smarter than your parents. They had me put my teeth in a cup on the table so there was no chance of being caught :shifty:

Parents never really tried talking about santa clause and everything. He was just commonly accepted as being fake.

One really big hint was when I realized all the presents said "from mom" or "from dad"

Apparently my mom had a friend who didn't find out santa was fake till about 16! She told her friend something about santa not being real, and her friend cried and she was sent home.

But yeah, as for me my parents never discussed it. They were just too greedy to say anyone else bought MY presents :noid:

Same with the tooth fairy. Never discussed, I got like a nickel. I was gipped!
