I hate them. I will religiously pick them out of any dish, even the tiny slivers in soup! I can immediately tell if it accidently gets through and and will discreetly get it out somehow. yeeech!

I hate mushrooms and only tolerate them when it would take too much work to get them out of there. Oh, yeah. I also eat them if I'm sitting there with my family and don't want the kids to see me picking at my food. To me, mushrooms are what I imagine slugs and "naked" snails must feel like in one's mouth. puke

I have only once found morels, then only two. They were eaten raw on the spot. Not a fair test.

The Hallucinogenic mushrooms or the 'normal' ones you find at the grocery?
Ah, those insane Dutch people and their drugs!

Sorry, I could not resist...Resistance is futile with this question...
I love mushrooms. They are an excellent replacement for meat, said the vegetarian..

Queen,
I love mushrooms. They are an excellent replacement for meat, said the vegetarian..
How can you say such a thing? They are a great addition to meat, but they have virtually no protein at all. Good source of B vitamins, but if you want to replace meat (sad) you should find a good source of protein.
Mushrooms are good, but no sub for meat.

My grandpa is a beekeeper in California and sometimes he would find morrels near the orchards where he had hives. What's the name of that poisonous variety that looks likes morrels?

Okay, you guys are sad sick people.
What did the mushroom ever do to you?!?
Besides, there are three things that I have an avid fear of in this world and mushrooms are in the top two.
I don't know where the other three mushroom-rights advocates are but they need to speak up. We're getting trampled over here.
P.S.

To johnnybanano: :bonk: Mushrooms rule!
Who said they knew somebody who raises them? Is it possible to grow your own morels? I can't find them growing anywhere! I remember my grandfather would go up to Cadillac, Michigan when I was little and pick TRUCKFULLS, but you just can't find them anymore like back then. I wonder why? Sometimes I buy them at markets, but they are outrageously expensive, like 20 or 30 bucks a pound!
Those are my favorite kind of mushrooms, I like them breaded and fried in butter.
If there's a way to raise morels, I wanna know about it. I am gonna make me a fortune next spring!!!

so that's what a morel looks like.
are there any mushrooms that look similar? I would love to try one if I ran across it but I don't like the idea that It would be some poisonous look alike that would rewire my brain, eat my innards out, turn my blood into acid or whatever horrid thing poisonous shrooms could do.

Still not a complete protein, tho. It's second-rate. A complete protein only occurs one place in nature, naturally -- soy. (Although most people don't know that rice and beans can be combined to make a complete protein, as can peanut butter and whole wheat bread.)
That said, I think 'shrooms put the FUN in fungi! :rithumb:
I love almost every kind of mushroom I've ever tried. I remember in southern Europe, I had one kind that was wrapped in little bits of bacon with some other kind of thing in their with them, but... I remember they had super-thin stalks, as thin as pencil lead, but one or two inches long, and tiny little button heads on them. And eaten this way, as if eating a "cord" of them... somehow seemed crunchy when I chewed them. And they were awesome! Wish I could remember what they were. LOL
Shrooms RAWK! :rigreen:

I think there is one that looks similar to the morel- I'll have to go check.
But if you ever run across a morel, you will never forget it. I hope in heaven we can eat and have an unlimited supply of morel mushrooms. :dork:

Are morrels segmented with hollow chambers inside? I seem to remember hollow chambers being connected somehow to whether they were actual morrels or the poisonous ones. Not sure though.

Mushrooms are "so-so." On pizza they taste okay, and on a cheeseburger with bacon, avacado, jalepenos, etc. they do add taste. But I don't like 'em much anywhere else.

I am the one you speak of. Yes it is possible to grow morels commercially. There is one known process and it is patented by a company called, Morel Mountain. Some are trying to develop ways for consumers to grow Morels. They are very difficult to grow. I have never eatin them, but I would love to try them sometime.
-Fish
Edit to add: There are two known processes to grow morels indoors... One is patented, one is not.

Geebob, I don't know whether you can do that or not... However the other method, if you are interested, is avalible at: http://www.mushroompeople.com/cat2000/morel.html
