Christ, the cross conquering love of Heavenly Father, can make us master of our body.
When communist forges conquered North Vietnam U.N.O. sent ships to succor and carry refugees from a central sanctuary. There a young U.S.A. navy doctor Tom Dooly was deputed. He was on heavy demand there and overworked. He was also being romantically drawn to a philanthropic Buddhist and Buddhism.
But one night he was summoned to treat a comatose deadly beaten native Christian pastor. He had refused to flee from his parish when the Vietcong overrun it. They hung him naked from a rafter and left him for dead after beating and bayoneting him. At morn his parishioners found him unconscious, bleeding and both eardrums punctured by oversized wood. Making a makeshift raft they floated him along the Mekong River to the sanctuary. While treating the unconscious pastor his lacerations made Dr. Tom vomit.
Now Tom was trauma transformed. His contact with true Christian liberated him from romance and fads. From then on he dedicated himself fully to demonstrate Christian love to the poor in Laos and Vietnam. he made an organization which still works there. The record of his martyr like life and death also changed me. So I am also carrying on a small similar mission in near situation of India nearby his mission field.
We are slave to our body and its passions. So we take flesh love as real love, which lead us to futility and destruction. So we cater to the appearances and fads. We can’t liberate ourselves from this slavery. but when we come to the crushed Christ and martyrs, obedient to the love of Heavenly Father, we are liberated. Then we rise to become the master of our body and mind to create Heaven here and hereafter.
