What I think is wrong with some churches

I am an amateur theologically and philisophically. Yet I know what the bible teaches and my faculty of reason is growing.

1. Turning christiabity into a means to an end.
In doing so you remove everything that Jesus taught and make christianity no more than a figment of human making.

2. We are afraid to criticize.
We do not criticize societal trends, philisophical ideas, atheism, pantheism, or other religions nearly enough. As a result christianity comes off as needlessly soft and without factual and theological backbone.

3. Lack of Education.
Mr Holding once answered a question of mine by reccomending a book. My question was "With how much their is in defending, explaining, and motivating a healthy christian life why is it that lies like Jesus is a copy of mithra continue?" I also asked why youth pastors seemed so desperate. He reccomended a book about how youth ministry changed in the 1940s and it spoke to me. It spoke to me because ultimately we can have both fun experiences, charity and fellowship and discussion of apologetics, theology, and philisophy.

I would not be a believer if not for people who were holding tight to the biblical truth. These things hold a personal value to me.

I don't understand the first point, but I agree with the second two.

The first one is eaying that people look at christianity as a way to get what they want instead of the covenant relationship with the atonement done by christ that it is.

Christianity is certainly a way to get some things that you want, and also to avoid certain things that you don't want. That's why the Bible is filled with promises and threats. But ultimately those things are spelled out in the Bible. People don't get to decide for themselves what Christianity will be -- such as, e.g., deciding that Christianity is a mandate for communism like many politicians teach.

May I ask what the book on youth ministries was? I have a brother in our college bible group who is going through issues with how his church is dealing with youths, so maybe it will be of help...?
