Robert Millet & Greg Johnson - my guests on this week's show.

Listen here to the programme "Morman & Christian Dialogue" at www.premier.org.uk/unbelievable

This may not be one which the atheists here are too bothered about, but the question is one that many Christians have asked themselves.

Of course there are doctrinal differences between Christian and Mormon belief. But if at a very simple level a Mormon believes that their sins are forgiven by trusting in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is that not enough for God's grace to operate?

On the programme I asked my Mormon guest Robert Millet, Professor at Brigham Young University, if he believes I will go to heaven as a Christian. He replied "definitely". Now there may be some "strings attached" to that answer given the Mormon belief in varying levels of glory etc, and I might only be scraping in, but it was a revelation to at least learn that I don't have to be a Mormon to be saved.

Conversely, does a Mormon have to become a Trinitarian Evangelical Christian to be saved?

I would say yes. Mormons are not Christians. They may use the same terminology, but it means different things. The god in Mormonism is a finite being who eventually became god and is not the perfect being of the Bible. He needed to be redeemed himself. He cannot be my redeemer.

That was my problem with this one. I couldn't even tell if the Baptist minister thought Mormons are non-Christians or not.

Buddhists, New agers, muslims believe in Jesus; question is, is it a Jesus that can save them.
definitely if they believe they will be a god someday or lessen Gods power they will have to answer for it.

Greg Johnson and Standing Together have come in for a fair amount of criticisim for being too "soft" on Mormons. The problem is that you may not get to have a conversation in the first place unless you adopt a ceratin attitude.

Interstingly I have had emails from different Ex Mormon ministries since the programme aired claiming that as a result of Standing Together's activities, there have only been reports of Christians becoming Mormons through it, not the other way around.

Do mormons believe Jesus rose from the dead? I don't recall it.

If yes, they might have a chance if universalism is false.

Yes they do, but it's not the Jesus of the Bible.
