View Full Version : The hypocrisy we must fight against...

In the months before their daughter was born in 2007, Deborah and Ariel Levy worried the baby might have Down syndrome. They say a doctor at the Legacy Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine assured them that a sample of tissue taken from the placenta early in the pregnancy ruled out the developmental disability, despite the results of later testing that showed the fetus might have it.
But within days of the birth of their daughter, the Southwest Portland couple learned the baby did have Down syndrome. Had they known, they say, they would have terminated the pregnancy. Now they're suing in Multnomah County Circuit Court, seeking more than $14 million to cover the costs of raising her and providing education, medical care, and speech and physical therapy for their daughter, who turned 2 this month. The suit also seeks money to cover her life-long living expenses.
The Levys declined to be interviewed. Their attorney, David K. Miller, said the toddler is as dear to them as their two older children but they fear being perceived as "heartless."

Hey, Bill, go read this.
http://beautifulwork.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/remembering/
I found that over 90% of babies that are diagnosed with down syndrome are aborted.

We love her dearly, but we would have killed her early on if we had known. Hypocrisy is the word..
Of course they could just be going for the money, and using the child as an excuse.

We wish we would have killed you when we had the chance. But we love you, dear.

This story saddens me.
I don't see the Levy's as being hypocritical, though; on the contrary, they are just expressing what seems to be the growing viewpoint of a generation who has always known that abortion is an option. It has degraded life to the point that children are now a lifestyle accessory, not the precious gift from God that they really and truly are.
In other threads on different forums here, there have been quotes and arguments that show this to be so. In one quote the loss of a job might be cause enough to no longer want to give birth to the child a woman is pregnant with. In another thread there is argument after argument that unwanted children are the cause of a huge percentage of crime and evil in our society. The answer? Abort them, of course.
And now here are the Levys with their less than perfect child. They want someone else to pay the expense, to bear the burden for them. It's the perfectly logical extension of this me first, everything-my-way society.
It's sickening, and yes, Mr. and Mrs. Levy, it's heartless, but it's not totally surprising.

I think SNL had a recurring sketch about these two people. It was called "The Two A-Holes" or something.
That's a bit too explicit thank you

This is not just saddening but equally disgusting. One wonders what will happen when the child finds out about this, if they ever do.

As one who is disabled, I find this absolutely sickening.

This is very sickening. You can't say you love a child yet you would've exterminated it if you knew their disability. I too am one who is labeled as "disabled" in society. I also work with disabled children. I have a friend who has Downs Syndrome and he's sweeter than most guys I know! The children I work with are fun and filled with curiosity. Us "disabled" just see things differently from the "normal" of the world. Then again, can we even truly define normal? Anyway, I think the Levi's really need to talk to parents who have disabled children and see just how wonderful they are and how much they can be loved. If they don't want to be perceived as heartless, then they must also not be heartless.

This is absolutely disgusting! It's hard to believe that people could be so selfish as to say that they wished they had aborted their baby because she had a disability. I feel terrible for their daughter, and my heart breaks when I think about what kind of treatment she will receive from her so-called parents.
These parents need to be knocked down a peg or two. It's a shame they can't come spend a day at the place I work, so they can meet the people I take care of.
People who, I should add, I am honored to know and who just happen to have disabilities.
I pray that this baby girl will receive the love, attention, and care she needs and deserves.

There is a very similar story to this in today's New Zealand Herald.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10608308&ref=rss
The little girl has Spina bifida which wasn't detected in the ultra-sounds. They want the Accident Compensation Commission (ACC) to pay for her costs.
They too say that they "love their 2-year-old girl dearly. But had they been told of her debilitating spinal deformity before her birth, they would have chosen abortion"

Oh dear. What is the world coming to nowadays. People who claim to love their kids but at the same time then say that they wouldn't have had them if they knew certain things about them. It's horrible. This is even more horrible than the mother who tells her child that she didn't want any children it was all an accident from some one night stand or whatever.
Micheele is right. This is all down to people wanting to control things and have everything their own way in their terms and conditions.

I am reminded of these poignant lyric from Casting Crowns's "While You Were Sleeping":
United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we're sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children

There is another sick story within this one. A money grab pure and simple. I'll bet the attorney told them they had to say that they would have aborted or else there is no case. My bet is they are looking for a quick settlement from the defendants (perception of deep pockets). I wonder what the attorney's cut will be.
I wish the Biblical direction to take it before the church elders was the way our society operated but alas we have built a greedy world.

Typical types of jerks. They want the nation and legal system to agree and consent to their view either that a baby in the womb with problems can be killed or the fetis is not a human being.
In making the state pay them they are making everyone agree with the intellectual and moral values behind their intents.
They don't just want abortion they want everyone to be a part of it.
Once again the issue of who decides whether the fetus is a human being is the big point.

Wishing someone dead is actually a definition of 'hate'. It's difficult to imagine how things could've been worse in Noah's day.
