It's interesting that the laying on of hands is practically unheard of in churches today, despite the fact that the author of Hebrews thought it to be elementary doctrine. (James mentions the practice as well.)

In his autobiography, John Wenham mentioned ministering to somebody who was ill, who was aware of this and who saw no reason it should not be tried today... and in that case, the patient recovered.

I don't think the Bible ever proposes that the laying on of hands will heal people. The closest thing would be when Jesus put mud on a man's eyes. The laying on of hands refers to transferring the power of the Holy Spirit.

Saul's blindness was healed in Acts 9:17-18 through the laying on of Ananias' hands. Irenaeus, in the late 2nd century, attested to people being healed by the laying on of hands. I agree, though, that it is usually done for passing on the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Us Pentecostals lay on hands when asking God for any sort of blessing for an individual, whether a healing, or a baby dedication, or the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Believe it or not, I think your list is slightly too long.

I would go with:

• the principles of the doctrine of Christ
• repentance from SIN (to my mind not quite the same as dead works)
• faith towards God
• resurrection of the dead
• eternal judgment

the others you listed are very important. I just find them a little too open on interpretation to list them as a first principal.

I forgot about Mark 16:18. While probably not originally part of the gospel, it is another quite early attestation to the laying on of hands for healing.
