I've seen so many businesses put the fish sign or use the word "Christian" in their business name. To me this seems like they are trying to get the edge on their compition by using the Lord to say they are legit. It seems kid of tacky to me. Also not long ago, a business in my area was busted for deceptive practices. Christian was in his companies name and he had logos like the cross and others all over the place. What's your view on this? Thank you

If people put a Christian logo say on a company truck, is this taking the Lord's name in vain?
Sorry about that, I didn't realize There was a limit until it was too late.

I'm always suspicious when I see the fish or cross on somebody's sign. I've seen it abused too much. Interesting you should bring this up, because I'm actually looking at a local shop named Christian Brother's Auto (http://www.cbac.com/) to take primary responsibility for my company's fleet of vehicles. The information on the website looks GREAT, but i'm still hesitant.
I guess I'll stop by and have an eyeball-to-eyeball with the manager.

I don't see a problem with it. All things being equal, I will always choose to do business with a fellow believer. How does one know that they actually are? Well if that is part of the decision of hiring that company, since they opened the door to religious questions, ask about their faith.

Exactly... you can usually tell if they're "just saying words" or if it's the real deal. Which is why I'll stop by and have a chat.

I am pretty indifferent about it. Slapping on a cross of pistis for me is no different from someone raising a flag of their respective nationality.
They are symbols that outright declare where your allegiances lie. In the case of crosses and pistises, they are outright declarations of loyalty towards The Lord and the Kingdom of Heaven. It never hurts to show that sort of "pride" (for lack of better word) by my reckoning.

....I think it's abused, but I don't see anything wrong with it either (not the abuse part, but identifying yourself as a "Christian" business)...I agree with the chat and find out....if they are "abusing" it then I'll spend more, do without, or whatever rather than support them...
And I think some times, some Christians put to much emphasis on it.....
Reminds me of a Steve Taylor song....
Guilty by Association (from Meltdown album)
So you need a new car?
Let your fingers take a walk
Through the business guide
For the "born again" flock
You'll be keeping all your money
In the kingdom now
And you'll only drink milk
From a Christian cow
Don't you go casting your bread
To keep the heathen well-fed
Line Christian pockets instead
Avoid temptation
Guilty by association
Turn the radio on
To a down-home drawl
Hear a brylcream prophet
With a message for y'all
"Well I have found a new utensil
In the devil's toolbox
And the heads are gonna roll
If Jesus rocks"
"It's a worldly design!
God's music should be divine!
Try buying records like mine
Avoid temptation"
Guilty by association
So you say it's of the devil
And we've got no choice
'Cause you heard a revelation
From the "still small voice?"
If the Bible doesn't back it
Then it seems quite clear
Perhaps it was the devil
Who whispered in your ear
It's a Telethon Tuesday
For "The Gospel Club"
"Send your money in now
Or they're gonna pull the plug!"
Just remember this fact
When they plead and beg
When the chicken squawks loudest
Gonna lay a big egg
You could be smelling a crook
You should be checking The Book
But you'd rather listen thank look
The implication
Guilty by association

My preacher was joking about all the fish symbols on the cars in the church parking lot one day. He said he doesn't have one on his car because he doesn't want to give Jesus a bad name when people see him cutting someone off to get out of the parking lot first after church.
but in reality, he has a point. If you are willing to put a Christian symbol on your business, you better be way above board on all of your actions or you will be smearing the name of Christ. Something to think about.

We said the same thing about Church Vans when I was a youth minister... if you're going to have your church's name on the side of your van, and you are representing Christ, don't be acting like a bunch of fools and hollering trash talk out the window at folks.
