The ad is sarcastic, secular and dehumanizing.

I'm sure it will raise money for the anti-abortion industry, and I equally confident that it will not save a single child.

Interesting reading your response. It seems to have struck a note with you. It doesn't seem quite that dramatic imo, however, I do get what you're saying.

I don't. And I am POSITIVE it will save at least a single child.

My anecdotal story. I was an abortion clinic defender. There was a pro-life protester I never personally met. He had on a t-shirt that read on the back, "As a former fetus, I object to abortion." We all had a good laugh about how stupid and cheesy that was. How it would never do a whit of good but probably made that self-righteous prig feel real good.

But guess what. That was over twenty years ago. I don't remember a thing anyone else wore. And I think of that shirt when I think about my mother, unwed, pregnant with me, the product of an affair. And I thank God abortion wasn't legal. And as a former fetus I also object to abortion.

Did it save a single child? I think so. I have spoken to thousands of women who have in turn certainly amongst them spoke to thousands of women. Along the way, I am postive at least one child was saved.

So, dear sir Abelard, excuse my strong reaction when I tell you to shove it.

The ad is . . . dehumanizing.

That has to be one of the most ironic responses to a pro-life ad ever.

I like the "as a former fetus" concept, but comparing abortion to logging is puerile. I don't see the snarkiness in the "as a former fetus" concept either.

Would dear Dizzle have had the same reaction to the ad in question? I doubt it. To someone who is not already against abortion the tree ad is simply stupid.

Of course, my own taste is questionable. My T shirt would have a Mayan priest engaged in human sacrifice, hacking out the heart from a fetus with an obsidian knife. The blood would be running down the stairs of the pyramidal temple, with the stairs labeled "greed", "lust", "selfishness" etc. Probably not a big seller.

But who really out there (in any numbers worth considering) wants so much to save a tree, or stand of trees, from common lumber production ?
