I just got a Venus Fly Trap and was wondering if anyone else here owns them as well.

I've had them before. I never really saw them trap an insect, but I guess they must have. They're really interesting plants

Do the prickly things that look like teeth hurt?

I have had Venus Fly Traps in the past. And no the "teeth" are fairly soft and do not hurt. They only serve to hold the prey in until it can be killed.
If you treat it nicely you may get seeds and can, as I did, raise little baby fly traps of your own. I don't know what the point is, but it was fun.
They don't have to have insects to thrive. They do get nutrition from the soil.

I always wanted one of these when I was a kid.
It's like owning a Piranha Plant!

...and so DJ, Yo Lunch, YourMaster and PitchforkPat emerged from their long awaited slumber only to realize they were fused together in a prank gone totally wrong....

Can PETA boycott nature herself? Poor flies. Never saw it coming.

Are we talking about the DJ on WKRP in Cincinnati (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077097/)?

I had a little one some time ago; I can't remember 'all the specifics' ...except one. It did eat an insect and it's trap never opened again, and the trap part of the plant rotted around this first! captured bug..and it wasn't long until that plant died.
