It costs $40,000 (tuition only) per year to go to MIT.
However they post all of their courses on line for free. You can get an MIT education without costing a penny. (You might want to buy some text books though).

Though it does specifically say that reading courses online is not equivalent to an MIT education; and the lack of a piece of paper at the end means spending time on it won't help you get a job. Not to say it doesn't have some good resources.

I could see this as a nice way to learn the material and then go get the credits through CLEP or some other credit by exam at the college of your choice.

Kind of awesome, since MIT is sort of my dream school for my PhD in Poli. Sci. (that's two years off, and I know that it's highly competitive, but hey, a man can dream).
