1) Eric Clapton
2) Roy Clark
3) Phil Keaggy
I can make a great case for those three.
Clapton is still a terrific player and some still think he's the hottest thing since sunburn. For many others, he's an afterthought when we think of great guitarists, when he should still receive strong consideration.
Roy Clark is an excellent guitarist. Roy Clark appeared on Hee-Haw and was taken about as seriously as "Hoss" on Bonanza. Enough said.
Keaggy is a superb guitarist worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Holdsworth, Vai, Johnson, and Morse; the Christian community, however, gets hold of a story where Hendrix/Clapton/Nugent/Walsh (the story varies depending on whom you hear it from) referred to Keaggy as the best guitarist. So, for many Christians Keaggy is the best (anything to do with the label "Christian" you think?)
4) Prince?
5) Edge?
