Have you ever wondered why God choose lowly shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus rather than those higher on the social ladder? I have many times over. Here are the conclusions that I am in the process of building and expanding on.
There are two vocations I associate Jesus with that of a carpenter and that of a shepherd. Both come from his birth, born a carpenters son, and first identified and honored by shepherds. Both were blue collar, get-your-hands-dirty vocations that went from obscurity to Icons etched into the lives of millions and millions of people.
For me, a blue collar, get-my-hands-dirty, commoner it is easier to associate with one so simple yet so Divine. Jesus is my shepherd I shall not want. Jesus is my Master Carpenter who builds and rebuilds the intricate framework of my life. I am so glad God thought beyond Royalty and presented me over 2000 years ago with the Gift of His Loyalty in the innocence of baby named Jesus.
If I had my choice to be transported through time and place my greatest desire would be to stand with the shepherds as the angels told them of Jesus’ birth. Then humbly walk with them to honor the baby.
You must first claim Jesus’ birth before proclaiming his life.
Jesus is… … …the Ultimate reality!
