Personally I would like it to be a soft shade of violet that turns in to a deep shade of plum as it goes higher in the sky. That would be smooth.

The sky is blue because that is the wavelength of light that is refracted off of molecules (O3) in the atmosphere. Sorry to ruin the naval-gazing philosophical discussion.:)

Blue is reflected more than all the colors in the spectrum. It collides into the nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere.
Just a little science for you,

I have a general idea of what the Son looks like. He retains the scourging and the piercing He received while under the hands of Pontius Pilate. The Holy Spirit is Christ-Like but He is without physical features as well as the Father who dwells in unapproachable light.

Hopefully some day you will know the whole answerer to that.

God will reveal Himself to us someday. What a glorious and breathtaking day that would be in infinity.

The sky is blue for the same reason some eyes are blue. And peacock feathers, and some lizards, and those freaked-out looking icebergs.

The sky is blue because of those mind control waves travelling through the sky. It's the same reason that water appears blue. Mind control waves/drugs are blue.

The sky is blue because there are millions of hovering aliens holding up blue cardboard. . . man you guys must be really ignorant. ;)

During the hot summer evenings in Southern California the shy is a beautiful red, orange, lavender, and blue sunset. I was told it is that way due to the smog.:hrm:

I got this in an e-mail from Nick's Humor List (http://www.nickshumor.net/), and immediately thought of this thread:
The Top 8 Reasons the Sky Is Blue
8. It was originally green, but the Raelians sucked the yellow
out to refuel their starship's warp drive after a long week of cloning.
7. Because that's the way Dick Cheney wants it.
6. Given all the choices from the Crayola box, it looks a heck of a lot nicer than Burnt Umber.
5. You ever see that blue stuff in chemical toilets? Well,
flying saucers have been dumping their holding tanks in
our atmosphere for centuries.
4. The atmosphere scatters the short wavelengths allowing red
and yellow to pass straight through but blue to be scattered. Either that or Mr. Mxyzptlk has been playing with the Blue Kryptonite again.
3. Red or black skies are luxury/sport options only available
on more expensive planets.
2. Blue light weighs less, so it tends to float around in the
upper atmosphere.
and the Number 1 Reason the Sky Is Blue...
1. When the world switched from black and white to color in the
early 20th century, Disney decided the sky would be blue and
money green.

The sky is blue because if it was green we wouldn't know where the grass ends and the sky begins!

The Biblical answer:
"The sky is blue (the colour of the ocean) because the waters can be seen through the transparent crystal firmament (cf. Ezek 1.26, which pictures God as seated above the firmament on a throne the colour of lapis lazuli (blue or turquoise) – the colour of deep water and the sky.”
- Myers, Allen C (Ed) The Eerdmans Bible Dictionary (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1987), p1047
Hope that helps.

Well, the sky is only blue to those cultures that actually have a word for "blue."
You could open the whole Sapir-Whorf linguistic determinism can here, which says that different languages between people make them think differently. Of course, that's all backwards, because we know that colors are merely reflections of light which we perceive with the rods and cones in our eyes.
There have been studies done that show the Sapir-whorf hypothesis is backwards. I would recommend The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker, pages 40-45, I believe.

The sky is actually violet. Blue and violet are next to one another on the sectrum (think Roy G Biv!). I am told that the sky looks blue to us because our eyes perceive blue light better than violet light.
