I don't intend to be offensive, but my question to adherents of Wicca, and pagans in general, is what is the point. Do you have any explanation for the existence of the universe? Where did your gods come from?

would you take an answer from a former pagan?

I will take whatever answer I can get.

I am disappointed. Is there no reason to be an adherent of Wicca? Is there no reason to be a pagan? Are you there just because it is different?

Dear Jed,
Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, I've been working extremely hard this week. I'll address this answer in two parts
1) the answer you get depends on the wiccan or witch you ask. Since there are so many different paths inside Witchcraft, Wicca (yes they are seperate systems) and other types of polytheistic religions teach pagan has a belief for their specific set of gods/goddesses or lack thereof. And since I'm answering you'll be receiving the answer from a standpoint of a former hedgewitch (solitary, nonwiccan, hearth/home)
2) I believed at the time I practiced witchcraft that God was in everything and everything was part of him. I also believed in lesser spirits which were guardians of nature and guardians of the home, depending on the spirit they were either good neutral or potentially malevolent. lesser spirits to me were animal in origin or people in origin. Some were angelic or angels deemed to roam the earth. I didn't work with anything unless I knew (or thought I knew) what I was working with. For a hedgewitch, this is usually a legendary or mythical home guardian. And I thought these guardians were angels deemed to roam the earth although for some it might be an ancestor. I guess to sum it up I was Animistic regarding God, and also believed that other spirits could be found everywhere for a variety of reasons. If it was a person, usually it had unfinished business and couldn't leave until the business was through, "karma" for lack of a better word. Animals preferred to protect people and I thought some didn't want to leave, and Angels I believed were always bound to God's assignment. And now.....I guess my life's events and searching for God led me straight back to Christianity.
