I love Cygnus X-1. I think the sounds in the song are very representative of the mood. And even better, one of the best lyrics ever. "The star that would not die."

Over the Rhine has a killer CD, don't know the name, but its last song, which is live, "I'm Drowning" is sharp.
Of course, then there is always Close to the Edge and Fragile. "Mountains come out of the sky and stand there." Almost mythological!

That would have to be "Besides" afaics, which is a collection of "B" sides (outtakes and the like for those who don't appreciate the reference to platters).
Karin Bergquist of OTR has the most beautiful and emotive singing voice that I've ever heard. Those of you who haven't heard it can take advantage of the samples (including free mp3 downloads) at the band site, starting here:
http://overtherhine.com/music/recordings/cd01/cd01.html
Bear in mind that "Til We Have Faces" and "Patience" were accomplished independently without the benefit of a recording deal.
[edit to add]
Oh, nevermind. The older mp3 links are dead, so the material from those recordings is unavailable for download.
"Moth" from "Pictures for Radio" is a great tune, and a great example of Karin's vocal ability.
Of course, then there is always Close to the Edge and Fragile. "Mountains come out of the sky and stand there." Almost mythological!
Almost ridiculous! Gotta love Anderson's lyrics!

Karin Berquist of OTR has the most beautiful and emotive singing voice that I've ever heard.I really am not big into female vocalists at all. That is, she is the huge exception. She has a presence in her voice that makes it more than just a higher pitch voice. She's got range and emotion.
Almost ridiculous! Gotta love Anderson's lyrics! You do realize what that means, right? He's singing about the mountain tops when they pierce the clouds. From above, it literally looks like the mountains are born out of the sky (in the clouds) and that they can stand there, somehow supported on the clouds. It is very telling and very mythological. I'm a huge Anderson fan. G.O.D. is perhaps the best meaningful piece of literature written: "kill or be killing, faster sins correct the flow" It also may be one of the rare songs that was captured perfectly on tape, sounding as good or even better than live, something unique to most Yes recordings.

LOL I used to read the lyrics to "Synchronicity", and others on that album when I was in middle school, and look things up in the dictionary and encyclopedia to see what they meant. Sting and The Police taught me all kinds of stuff I didn't know about. Too bad school wasn't as interesting at the time.

Me forget Tales of Mystery and Imagination. How dare thee!
Alan Parsons is great, and that album was and is excellent. Not a bad tune. I love "To One in Paradise".
Synchronicity... The album that killed the band. It did so well, they couldn't do better. Nothing like Jungian psychology to make a rock album. Archetypes and instincts. There is a link.

I just can't get into Opeth. The music is great, but I can't get past the death metal vox. One similar band that it took awhile for me to get into, due to the vocals, was Children of Bodom, but I finally got to where I like them a lot. Of course, their vox are a little more clean than death metal, but less clean than power metal. I have trouble defining them for that reason.

Evanescence Fallen
Their first album, Origin, was better. Way better. I listened to that album a lot. Then the Daredevil soundtrack came out with that rapcore song, and then Fallen came out, which tweaked all the songs on Origin, and the radio played it's singles until everyone ears bled. I can't stand to listen to them now, but Origin was a really really good album. I had an odd personal experience with them before they got big. I'll have to tell you about it sometime.

It was selling for quite a bit before ebay became flooded with bootleg copies being passed off for authentic CDs.
I miss their old stuff. Origin was great, but also quite a few songs that I like (Bleed, Before the Dawn, Farther Away, Forever You, Listen to the Rain, Missing, Surrender, So Close) aren't even on that one -- they were only released on EPs and the like.
There's no such thing as a CD I can listen to forever without getting tired of, but the Evanescence mix CDs my sister burned for me came pretty darn close.

The only Christian one I can think of is Third day; Offerings - A Worship Album
I don't think I have ever got sick of any Jazz or Classical album in my collection.
For prog rock I would say Pink Floyd Animals is by far their best IMO and I could listen to that over and over.
I remember in my late teens my tape player jammed in my car and I couldn't eject the cassette tape. It was an extremely powerful stereo system and for about 12 months all I could play in my car was pink Floyd's the wall. I was living in Edinburgh Scotland at the time and my car became known as "the wall" car.
I didn't get sick of that either, although it was rather depressing.
I can't think of too many other rock albums that I don't get sick of after a while.
