The Selfie Presidency for the Selfie Generation in a Selfie World.

President Obama is that rightful king.

There he is with the greatest baseball players of our day. The president mugging for a selfie outside the White House. Later he feigned outrage when it became public that the picture of him with Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and a “44” jersey was just part of some sleazy corporate product campaign by Samsung.

And here he is now with Vice President Joe Biden in the back seat of his limo with the Presidential Seal embroidered on the plush leather armrest between them. Another selfie that is part of another campaign, this one political for Biden in 2016.

The most infamous selfie of all got snapped during the funeral of Nelson Mandela. That unfortunate photo immortalized what apparently mattered most at this funeral for the man who patiently stared down violent apartheid: King Selfie’s own iconic image.

Stop and think about it. Can you envision any other president in history posing for a selfie and distributing it to the world?

I told you, Obama thinks of himself as a celebrity more than as a world leader. He wants to be popular, "with it" and part of the "in-crowd". So he tweets and selfies, and cuts up in public, cracking jokes and just being one of the frat guys.

            Ronald Reagan? Jimmy Carter?

Bill Clinton? Perhaps. But he would most likely point the camera some place other than his smiling face. At least, he would have the decency to keep the picture between himself and one or two of his favorite interns. Maybe send it to Anthony Weiner.

I can easily see George W. Bush doing it, in his typical self-effacing manner.

Yeah, you have a point -- but it was obviously that ..um.. what you said.

I have to admit that I never got the outrage. Is there something inherently wrong with world leaders taking selfies?

Its supposition trying to imagine what the older generation would have done in our time.

                        It doesn't bother me either.

I don't think it is the selfies themselves, more like Obama's "Hey guys I am a celebrity!!! ...but I like to connect with the little people too!" Attitude.

He has brought the office of the president down from a world leader to some celebrity role, like an actor that goes around doing Oprah shows and posing for photos at premiere events. He is all about showing off and does nothing that gives respect to the office he holds.

Selfies are all about self-aggrandisement. A leader of a country shouldn't do that.

I don't think any of us have either. "Outrage", apparently, is a VERY overused term.

Not inherently, no --- it's the "I'm such a rock star" attitude, when he really hasn't accomplished squat.

True - But Reagan would have still said "take more than your share of the blame, and less than your share of the credit". Obama gets that WAY backward.
