Of all the things to remember about hanging with Jesus one of the most important is that he first hangs with us! One of the marks of a good leader is to illustrate to those who would follow him that he not only “talks the talk” but he “walks the walk” realizing this Jesus proved he was one of us when he sought baptism from John.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. " (Matthew 3:13 - 14 RSV)
It is important for each of us to know that we do not “hang alone” even though at times it may seem that way. If through his baptism Jesus was illustrating his willingness to hang with us doesn’t it make sense that through our baptism we’re telling him we’re willing to hang with him too?
Hanging with Jesus is for a lifetime and beyond!
