Reports of Neanderthal copulation with Modern Homo Sapien could be expected to reach us, all the way to this day, in some form or another. The idea of giants, grotesque and fearsome, have been told in all cultures. Those reports are without the integrity of scripture however. They are in the form of word of mouth transmission recently written down and suspect of inaccuracies, if not plain fictions.
Like ourselves, our forefathers, all the way back 40,000 years ago, would have our own drive to pass on their own observations. We have sent into orbit government sponsered reports of ourselves to hoped for intelligent life in outer space.
Certainly, then, it could be that the whole four chapters in Genesis, 6 thru 9, are about the same, sinGular, amazing event.
I see the nephilim as neanderthal-like hominoids who did copulate with another species to create our own hybridizationl, at least. Speculation only. Science marches on... in this investigation.
Nevertheless, personal testimony is data to be given significant space in the process. Genesis is such data.
Four chapters is a lot of space by bible standards. I see the story of homo intercourse with another close species as ONLY the beginning of the whole tale. The three chapters following chapter six end with Modern Homo the sole and dominant life form. Those "others," Neanderthal or what, are gone, both in fact and in the Genesis report.
My take is that Modern Homo Sapiens "flooded" the areas of the earth which were inhabited by men of all species, and through war, murder, competition, eliminated everyone except us.
In this, the ARK was the modern homo sapien skull which contained a brain, one smaller but more tuned to the realities of surviving, a brain whose mind held the names of all animals, just as reported.
That those names could for once be spoken names is significant. Neanderthal had named them before our arrival on the world scene 40,000 "days/nights" or years ago. But, remember, Neanderthal could not speak. He had no oral language, because anatomically we believe he was unable to voice words beyond grunts.
The four chapters are very analogous to what we think happened, or what we observe as factual today. Our present Racial Stock Theory, for instance, supports three primary types of modern homos: Negroid, mongoloian, and caucasian. This seems clearly an analogy with Ham, Shem, and Japeth.
Also, we see the use of this hyperbola of "flood" elsewhere in the OT. And, we see the bones of extinct humanoids in graves that imply a belief in the life hereafter by creatures only a little different than ourselves.
Whether one beieves in ID, YEC, OEC, even Darwinism,... four chapters in Genesis seem related to the discussion. Whatever one might say to support his stance on Neanderthal co-habitation, the rest of these following chapters seem strongly related to the same issue.
