Arizona Pro-Life Alert on Women's Right to Know Law

Phoenix, AZ -- Today, the Arizona House of Representatives narrowly missed passage of the Woman's Informed Consent bill BY ONE VOTE.

In a politically deceptive maneuver, the Governor's office called pro-life Representative Cheryl Chase (D-23) to the Governor's office where she was held up while the House voted on the bill. While capitol security and pages searched for Representative Chase, the house was forced to vote on the bill. It failed while the Governor's office distracted Chase from voting.

In no way is Representative Chase the reason for this failure to pass Informed Consent. She is one of the only solid pro-life Democrats in the Arizona Legislature and is committed to passage of the Informed Consent bill. She needs our support.

Needless to say, the Governor's Office is entirely to blame for this blatant abuse of the legislative process. But it should also be mentioned that several members of the House, who signed off on candidate surveys, changed their minds on this critical vote: Carol Hubbs (R-4), Michelle Reagan (R-8) and Ben Miranda (D-16). Please contact these legislators asking them to recommit to their pledges. We also ask that you contact Bill Arnold (R-12) and Ernest Bustamante (D-23) and ask them to make sure they attend the next vote on Tuesday, March 18th.

Next Tuesday - March 18 - the Arizona House will reconsider the bill. It is imperative that we have the necessary 31 VOTES to pass the bill.

We need you to 1) Contact your legislators and ask them to support HB 2493
- Informed Consent; 2) Download and sign the Informed Consent Petition located on our website and 3) Circulate the petition among your family, friends, neighbors and at your church over the next FIVE DAYS and return them NO LATER THAN MONDAY AFTERNOON. (You can also contact our office and we will fax/email it to you if necessary.)

We will be presenting these petitions to the Arizona House of Representatives next Tuesday, prior to the vote. If there is one thing you can do this legislative session which will help make a positive impact on the lives of women, it is sign and return this petition. Please contact our office for further details.
