View Full Version : A New Alternative to War in Iraq

I'm fairly certain that most of us here don't want to see war in Iraq. We're all breaking our brains trying to find some other way.
In this link (http://www.sojo.net/index.cfm?action=action.home) you will find a plan posted by Sojurners. It is endorsed by many representatives of major denominations. Give it a read through and see what you think. I already read it and attached my name to a petition for this plan that Sojurners is managing.
Peace.

And just how are we supposed to arrest Saddam and the Baath party? Attempts to foster coups and rebellions have not worked.
Sitting around will not work. Relying on the UN will not work. Naked force is the only thing that will work.

No one is saying you have to sign it. It's just an option.

It seems that under the current plan Saddam will die of old age...Or boredom.

I agree with spl_cadet. The only difference I see between the current plan and the proposed plan is that it gives Sadam more time to use his WOMD
Step one remove Sadamm from power. How by convicting him of war crimes. Will he then leave peacfully? I doubt it. Then we must use force to remove him. The same plan as now, only it gives Sadam more time to use his WOMD.
Step two use the military to enforce inspections after Sadam is removed. Again the same plan as now, only it gives Sadam more time to use his WOMD.
I would love to accomplish the goals in this plan without war. And in IMHO the Sojurner plan, while it looks good on paper, would only delay the war, and delay would only make it worse.

If we hadn't already gone this route, I MIGHT support it,(I am not sure), but if we embarassed Saddam like that, he may have time to embarrass us dramatically.

How is Saddam supposed to be removed other than by force.

I find it hard to believe that someone, Kuwait, Saudis, Israel, SOMEONE, can NOT get an assassin in there and take him out.
:argh:
Put a Billion dollar bounty on his head and see what happens.

And why not pursue the "exile" option? I have no problem with letting him keep the billions he probably has in a Swiss bank and moving somewhere.
Libya, Tunisia, Cuba, or how about into a villa in France next door to Duvalier?

The problem is that he doesn't want to leave. And he has a ton of bodyguards and doubles. Yes there are people stupid enough to take a billion dollar bounty for that. They won't get the bounty.

That's better than killing and maiming thousands, ramping up the national debt, destabilizing the middle east and calling down terrorist acts on US citizens everywhere.

Yes it is.
Good thing the second one won't happen.
