Glory Seed Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

These daily devotionals are brought to you by Gary Piper, a writer with our Sister Site, Natural Spirit Ministries. TheologyWeb encourages you to visit and support their site.... they have many informative articles which can be discussed right here. If you enjoy Gary Piper's devotionals, please send him an encouraging note or post. We are very appreciative of our partnership with Natural Spirit Ministries and look forward to many more co-ventures.

A Planting of Faith Seeds for the Glory of the LORD
Giving ourselves to Jesus is our Greatest Blessing…

There are very few places in the bible where Jesus is on the receiving end two of the most notable are when in Samaria at Jacobs Well and the other is while on the cross minutes before his death. “A woman of Samaria came to draw water. “Give Me a drink,” Jesus said to her, for His disciples had gone into town to buy food.” (John 4:7–8, HCSB)

Jesus is known more as a Giver than a Receiver perhaps that is because there are more episodes of Jesus giving in the bible then Jesus asking and receiving but there may be another reason. Perhaps we see ourselves as needing more of what Jesus can do for us rather than seeing Jesus himself as our greatest need. Whatever the reason for understanding and experiencing Jesus as a Giver I want us to understand and experience Jesus as both a Give and Receiver.

It is my contention that it is out of our giving that we become receivers. Yet a word of caution is in order because just as important as giving is our motivation is equally important. For example we “give” our money to a bank into a savings account so we can get more money in return that may be okay in the “world” world but that won’t work in the “Kingdom of God” world. Of giving and receiving Jesus says, “And whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple —I assure you: He will never lose his reward!”” (Matthew 10:42, HCSB)

The following scripture has always been both encouraging and powerful for me, on the surface it may seem that Jesus wants us to be on the receiving end of his ministry. “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30, HCSB) Yet a closer examination reveals that while receiving rest from Jesus we also “learning” and experiencing that people (including us) are Jesus’ burden and as we “yoke” ourselves to Jesus his burden becomes our burden.

When it comes to understanding and experiencing Jesus’ burden (which is also our burden) Paul says it best, “Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:5–8, HCSB)

    Believe it! Experience it!
    Grace and PEACE!
    Gary

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures --1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (borrowed with gratitude from 37818's sig)
