Long ago Moses stood before the people of Israel and said to them, “Only take heed, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children's children -- how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’” (Deuteronomy 4:9 - 4:10 RSV)
The message Moses would have us glean today from what he said long ago is this. When the issues and unseen circumstances of the future are born in our minds today we need only reflect on the past to give credence and strength to our faith.
We do not know what tomorrow holds for us but the happenings of today do not suddenly disappear. Somewhere in this world is a person (perhaps you’re the one) who has seen cancer go into remission and live each day with the possibility that tomorrow remission will be history. And all they’ll have is the facts of past and hold fast that remission looms on the horizon. Remember the blessings of today they may strengthen your faith tomorrow.
The timelessness of God’s message yesterday is good news for us today!
