My baby has been both laughing and smiling since atleast seven days of age. Anybody else find this intriguing? How does a one week old know what funny is, most babies don't laugh till like six months. Get this she was laughin' in her sleep two nights ago. So tell me when do humans develop personalities, how could you be sure this started post-partum? Anyways, she does truly seem to be a bundle of joy.

Wow, that is awesome Emulator. That does seem quick. What do you mean by laughing? My five month old son started smiling within the first month and was giggling by two months. It was on Christmas day when he actually laughed for the first time (3 months old). The way that I distinguished it from the giggling is that it was not just like a happy cooing sound, but a forced laugh where he could not control himself and in direct response to something that we were doing. I think babies have personalities very soon in their development, but I'm not totally sure when exactly it develops. There are about 11 other babies at our church that are around the same age as Ryan and I could see differences among them in their behaviour pretty early on. It is a wonder to watch.

That's kinda what I'm getting at. I was like "Where'd that noise come from?"
sounded like my other daughter laughin, it wasn't a giggle, it was vocal and it seemed jovial but not out of control. The reason it trips me out (besides the wonder of her even being alive) is because I'm not understanding how a baby could have this much personality within the first week if it didn't develop that personality in the womb. It is intriguing to see the difference between her and my 16 mo old, I am constantly amazed by the genious of my babies.

I am so glad I ran across this site. I have a 6day old little girl and she will burst out laughing every now and again. She also seems really scared in her sleep sometimes. I imagine it is their little neurons firing and connecting, but it is just so precious! The first time I saw her do it I cried my eyes out. it was in the hospital when she was only 1 day.
Anyway I just wanted to tell you - you aren't alone!
God Bless

Welcome to the board! The thread you posted on is a couple years old so I'm not sure if either of the original posters will see what you said, but I wanted to say hello anyhow! Your little girl sounds ADORABLE! I wonder what babies dream of. I'm so glad you're enjoying your new little one!
