Hello, all.
I'm reading Roman Catholicism, by Loraine Boettner, and was wondering who would like to enter a chapter-by-chapter discussion of the book. I'm looking for two Protestants and two Catholics (I believe spl_cadet has already voiced his interest) who'd be willing to discuss the issues brought up by the book. I would be moderating this discussion in the Tennis Court subsection of T-Web.
Requirements/rules would be as follows:
1) Each participant would have to own or obtain a copy of the book. If you're interested but need help getting ahold of the book, please PM me.
2) We will be covering the book on a chapter-a-week basis. Each chapter will warrant the opening of a new thread (which I will start).
3) "In all things, charity." No personal attacks allowed.
Please give this prayerful consideration to see if this is something you might want to do.

Vinny, I would be, but 1) I'm in college, which limita my time and outside reading, and 2) I don't have the Boettner book, although I have Karl Keating's refutation of it back home.

As to the second point, I'd be willing to help out in getting Boettner's book to you, and (in the interests of equal time) I was thinking of following it with Keating's book should this study prove successful.
As to the first, I can't help ya there!

Okay, since response on this isn't as popular as I'd thought it would be (a bunch of Protestant candidates I'd approached begged off, citing something about a "work ethic" or some such-- anyone have an idea what these guys are on about?), I'm going to proceed as follows:
1) spl_cadet needs a copy of the book being discussed. I am awaiting his PM to negotiate my getting a copy sent to him.
2) Once the book is ordered, the clock for this sign-up sheet begins ticking. If no one else volunteers by the time spl_cadet informs me he's received his book, then the discussion group will be just the three of us: spl_cadet, Jude3b, and myself to moderate. Until then, we have slots available for one more Protestant and one more Catholic; both will need to be filled for a five-person discussion, or we'll go with the three-person format.
Thanks.

Boettner? What, they didn't have enough copies of Mein Kampf for the group?

You have a gift for hyperbole, Ishmael. And although Boettner may not be entirely undeserving of your scorn, I think your comparison of him to Hitler is unwarranted.

spl_cadet will be receiving his own copy of Roman Catholicism in anywhere from 4 to 14 days.

If I get another Catholic signee, you're on. If not, then I at least appreciate your interest.

The book has arrived.
Then the discussion with us three will begin in approximately one week. It will cover chapter one, so you'll want to have read that far by then.
I'll link it here when the discussion thread has opened.

Vinny, will there be a comments/review board outside the debate thread for others to comment on the participants and the points presented? I don't want to jump in on that thread, but I will be following it closely.

Hey, good idea, rocket! Would you mind starting such a thread?

I'd like to take this time to remind everyone involved (Jude3b, spl_cadet) that the discussion thread is underway in the Tennis Court, and that it's Jude3b's turn to speak. . ..

Well, the Tennis Court thread has been up since the 14th, and today's the 20th. I pm'ed Jude3b the same day I posted the thread to let him know it was his turn to put forth; I did not receive a response. He has been active in this section, posting as recently as the 18th, so it's safe to assume he knows the discussion has begun.
I think giving him until 11:59 PM of the 22nd is more than fair. If he doesn't wish to engage in the discussion as he'd indicated, then at 12:00 AM of the 23rd I will send a message to the moderators of the Tennis Court that a forfeit has occurred and the thread is to be closed.

Vinny, I just read your post, thread about the tennis court and the book to be discussed. How do we proceed? I've not used the "Tennis Court" before. Do you still want to do this?

I can go one way or another (although I'd be put out by the money spent to get cadet's book). spl_cadet is chomping at the reins, though. Must be all that youthful energy.

Dear Vinny: I've gotten ahold of Mr. Boettner's book this AM. It looks good and I quickly read parts of chapter one and posted my comments already. I will start to read this book in more detail tonight. So let the games begin!

And now that there's a substantive response, I guess I had best start working on my response. It should be up by Wednesday. If it isn't, feel free to hit me with heavy blunt objects till it is (or I pass out).
