It has been decided that, with a few exceptions, all forums will have the img code disabled. I realize that this may be a pain to a few... but seeing pages of 1280x1024 10MB bitmap images is a pain to me.
As an alternative, you put images inline using the attachment feature. Simply use the tag [ attachment=1], [ attachment=2], [ attachment=3] without the space and where the number is the number of the attachment you wish to display. If you have a single attachment, use [ attachment] for the same effect.(again, without the space between [ and "attachment]")
If you have any questions or need any help on using attachments instead of images, please visit the Student Resource Center.

Note that you can still use the img code, but instead of displaying the picture it will display the link.

This sounds good to me. I like illustrating my posts with images, but I don't like them to be too big, and I don't like downloading huge images from others. Henceforth I propose to attach a reduced version of the image, and then give it as a link to the original source.
(Added in edit) I can't actually make this work by my preferred method of [ url=...][ attachment=1][ /url] since it appears that the attachment is already intended to be clickable. So I give the link in other text.
For example, the following attached image (entitled Heaven on Earth) is from the Astronomy Picture of the Day site.

There is no curse strong enough in the tongues of Men, Elves, or Ents for this crime. :brood:

Actually... When you place your images inline with text, they are automatically thumbnailed and users can click on them to see them at full size...

Cir has instructions in his post... The Student Resource Center also has a tutorial.

I wouldn't have disabled it without giving an alternative :poke:

WHOOPS. The bug I reported previously shows up here also with the attached image. I normally view with images disabled. When I disable images and view the post, the text after the in-line attachment is displaced to appear before the post itself, outside of the post container.
I have attached a screen shot.
