Alright, this is going to be vague at best.
In the anime series Lain, the writters explore what it is that the human consciousness is capable of. They also explored that mayhap the world we are beginning to tap into through cyberspace may be the remnants of all human consciousness which was interconnected at some point in human development.
If we take this literally Jesus could have been the martyr who basically freed us from being a hive mind and allowed us to live without the absolute need of others consciousness for sustaining the colonies. We could also take this as a view of the movie The Matrix.
What part does technology play in religion? My thoughts are vague at best but this is something I have a growing interest in. Just wanted to see what all of you thought.
Thanks!
