Hi peoples,

So, as the subject asks: any other guitarists on here? If so, what kind of guitar do ya play? Style? Favorite player?

Surely there are a couple players on here...

Hi Faramir,

Cool that you play bass. What kind of music do you play? What do you think of Trip Wamsley if you know of him?

Cheers,
Megane

I play the guitar, it's been about 6-7 years now that I've played. You can hear me play by downloading any of the songs from:
http://www.uproarband.com/music.html

Steve Vai will always be my guitar hero. He's simply amazing.

Sorry, Megane. I'm just an old guy that plays bass in church, not that I wouldn't like to play other styles, just don't have the time :bawl:.

When I was younger I played in a Southern Rock/Grunge (sp?) band as a KB player though.

edited to add: My church does use lots of different styles of music though everything from Bluegrass, to R & B, and even some Jazz, but mostly pop.

I play Guitar, I like classical guitar a lot. I aslo can do some electric stuff, but I'm far from being good at leads.

Umm, oh yeah I play bass too.

Is that the seriously intense dude who used to play in . . . some popular CCM band (edit to add: Caedmon's Call!), did a few shows with Atomic Opera, then released a solo disk before falling off my radar?

Saw him play with Atomic Opera a few years ago at Cornerstone Fest. The guy has major chops, some nice tone, and some bizarre facial expressions.
The bits he does where he up/or/downtunes his bass in the midst of playing are pretty astounding. Maybe he should pioneer a Transperformance Bass.
What's up with him, if you happen to know?
(no, I don't play guitar--I've got one, but the noises that I make with it cannot be called music by any stretch of the imagination. Practicing 5 minutes per year has not enabled me to master the instrument)

Take heart! You're better at it than me already, almost guaranteed!

I think I'll blame it on the non-articulated fingers we marionettes are stuck with.

You gotta start somewhere.

If you don't read music, I'd really recommend learning to read tablature at least. That's like blasphemy to the purists but it really will help you along in the early stages because tab is so easy to get the hang of. You can actually play songs you recognize a lot sooner than if you tried learning to decipher the little black dots.

I've been a musician since I was in grade school in the late eighties. I played trumpet for six years, and started playing guitar about 7 years ago. My first guitar was an Ernie Ball Musicman Silhouette that I got from Lincoln Brewster. That, along with a vintage Les Paul were stolen last summer. Since then I've gotten a Les Paul and a PRS Custom 22.

I took theory and technique for about three years, and I can still read treble clef from my trumpet days. I play pretty much everything except for punk, country, and death metal.

Some of my favorite guitar players are

Phil Keaggy, Satriani, Eric Johnson, the Edge, SRV, Jeff Buckley, Brian May, Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), and a host of others.

I've been a guitar player for a few years now. Right now I've just about got a band assembled, but we probably won't do much beyond play Zepplin and Stevie Ray Vaghn covers in the local bars and clubs... But you never know, there have been alot of good bands from this Seattle music scene.

wow, lots of bass players running around here!

Jin-roh: First of all, the movie your name comes from is really excellent. :thumb: Oshii rules! Secondly, who do you listen to among classical players? I'm a classical guitarist myself, though I do have background in jazz-manouche, folk, rock, and blues as well.

Captain Ochre: lol...yeah that sounds like Trip. Right now, Trip is finishing up a new album. It's supposed to be really good from what I hear. Really wild stuff and all. Also, *nitpicker mode on* Trip was never "in" Caedmon's as a member, but he did play some shows with them several years ago.

Cirisme and Captain: As Em7 says, ya gotta start somewhere. And really take heart, I've had students who were absolutely *horrible* when they began and end up fine guitarists. All it takes is work. Lots and lots of work. :teeth: You should certainly learn to read tablature, and depending on what you want to play, learning to read music may be benificial. If you want to play classical for example, it's a must.

Alden: Ouch. Stolen guitars...ouch :bawl: <-- that would be me.

Efta: Very true! A good number of succesful bands have popped up from that area. A lil bit o' luck and ya never know...

As for me, I've mentioned that I'm primarily a classical guitarist with background in several other styles, and I'm a teacher. I prefer to teach classical, but with kids, it's mostly folk/rock/ stuff, unfortunately.

I play a '79 Ramirez 1A and a '00 Maurice Dupont Brazilian. Used to have a Les Paul but sold it when I gave up electric guitar.

Some players I listen to: Stochelo Rosenberg, Angelo Debarre, Bireli Lagrene, Shin-ichi Fukuda, Yang Xuefei ( I liked this girl so when I first heard her that I asked her to marry me in my first email to her :teeth:)

And this gentleman: Kazuhito Yamashita, who is probably the best living guitarist there is.

Cheers to all,
Megane

I play an early 70's Gibson SG Custom, I don't know exactly what year, my dad bought it before I was born and gave it to me as a gift. That's the backup guitar for the most part. Last summer I bought an Ibanez RG570. That guitar has a pretty bassy tone. I had to get used to having the floating tremelo (which I hated at first cause I used .013's when I play). I had to have another spring put in to hold the tremelo down even with the slack tuning.

I noticed the other day that even though I play in drop-B I still can hit the same high note that a Strat can, C#. But I've got 5 extra notes on the bottom. :yipee:

The only bad thing about the weird tuning is going back and forth between guitars. The Gibson is B E A D F# B, the Ibanez is B F# B E G# C# and I play my dad's acoustic which is in standard tuning. So trying to read chords really makes me think when I have to switch guitars.
