Up Close and Personal with Jesus Christ
I’ve a book in my library at home written by Max Lucado titled "The Great House of God" it’s well worth reading and highly recommended. In it the author takes you on a room-by-room tour of God using a house as an illustration. By the time I finished reading it I found myself sitting in the family room curled up in front of the fireplace enjoying the fellowship of God!
In the following scripture Jesus makes reference to He and God making their home in us! “Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” (John 14:23)
One of my favorite pictures of Jesus is the one where he stands knocking at a door. The door signifies the entrance to our lives. As I try to place myself in the picture I see myself walking to the door and asking, “Who’s there?”
To which Jesus promptly says, “It is I Jesus. May I come in?”
Suddenly my jaw hits the floor stunning me momentarily then I’m off in a flash to clean up my house (life). Not having a lot of time I push everything into a closet and quickly slam the door shut so everything stays in. Seconds later I open the door and say, “By all means Lord please come in.”
The instant his feet touch the dirt floor of my house I immediately feel at peace with the world and myself. “Lord, please let me wash your feet,” I say.
“There’ll time later for that right now I’d like to see what’s in that locked closet,” he replies moving toward it.
“No, please Jesus! No the closet,” I plead.
My pleas go unanswered and as his hand reaches for the doorknob I drop to my knees, “Please forgive me Lord for trying to hide my sins from you.”
He remains silent so the only sound I can hear is the sound of the latch unhooking and the door swinging open. And then nothing! As I raise my head all I see is an empty closet! “I don’t understand Lord,” I ask in amazement.
Jesus says only one word, “Look.”
Scanning the rooms it’s same house yet the paint is no longer faded and peeling, the dirt floor is now carpeted, the pictures on the wall are no longer hanging crooked, the windows are so clean they're nearly invisible, the cupboard doors are no longer falling off, “What happened?” I ask.
“I make all things new,” Jesus answers.
