View Full Version : Writing Gig with a magazine

I am stoked!
I applied for an internship with a magazine, and while they have told me that my chances for getting the internship are slim (since I have no real means to get out to Florida), that they still want me to write for them. They also plan to publish one of my writing samples on their e-zine in April (I'll give you all the URL when the date approaches).
Anyway, I am very excited because I now, potentially, have a nationally circulated venue for my writing. The position is free-lance for now. But it is a good foot inthe door.

Coolness (obscure TV reference, anyone know it?)
You going to get paid for this? And what kind of writing?

I get paid if I am printed in the hard copy magazine. If I am published on the web, it is a donation. In hard copy, the wage per word is $0.05. I have been paid twice that much, but I am not going to sweat it because this is a national publication, and the paper that I was paid ten cents for was local.
Since I am free-lance, I pretty much get to pick what kind of story I want to write. After that, they get to decide if they want to run it. But I am going to keep up on the publication so I can direct my writing to fit their demand.

Try going to www.faithwriters.com as well. I have sold several things there. They always have ezines and print mags buying from them. You basically put up a few of your writings and then try submiting to the freelance section. They also send out an email each week telling of new freelance markets. They are working with alot of Christian Mags and Pubs...

You might also try www.boundless.org. Although it's run by James Dobson's FotF org (and so therefore no fun), it has some good writers. I bet they'd run something you wrote, so long as you didn't stray too far from the path of convention. It has a big readership, I believe.
Congrats, by the way. It's a pleasant feeling to see your first article in print. It's especially nice when they cross your palm with silver. You are a good writer and you deserve some paying gigs.

That's outstanding news. I wish you all the best. And also hope your new writing assignments don't keep you from TW.
