View Full Version : Have you ever hung cabinet doors?

Hi all-
I took my cabinet doors off in the kitchen yesterday to paint them, and the hinges too. I have a quick question: When I go to hang them back up, is it easier to first attach the hinges to the cabinets and THEN screw the doors into the hinges, or is it easier to attach the hinges to the doors and then screw them into the cabinets? Hurry!

Get someone to help you!

Otherwise, it depends on the way the cabinets are set up. For my kitchen which is really old, I would attach the hardware to the door, put the door into the closed position (it rests inside the cabinet) and then I'd attach the hardware to the cabinet. Otherwise I'd attach the hardware to the cabinet first and then affix the door so that when I inevitably drop the door on my bare foot it won't hurt quite as much. (From the jagged hardware dontchaknow.)

Hinge the door first, then apply the door to the cabinet. I hope you marked the original positions and locations of the doors before you took them off? If not there may be some trial and error getting them to fit right.

I got them done. I had to hinge the doors first then screw them into the cabinets. I was afraid I was gonna end up doing it the hard way or something, so I had to ask. I only did one wall of cabinets in the kitchen (and I haven't finished the drawers yet), but here is a pic of the untouched ones, and the ones I finished yesterday:

Another nice job, chicky! When you're done with those, I've got a few projects that need to be done.
