On the Road to the Cross with Jesus…
“Then Pilate gave Jesus to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away. Carrying the cross by himself, Jesus went to the place called Skull Hill (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they crucified him. There were two others crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them.” (John 19:16 -17 NLT)
There were three crosses standing on the hill the day Jesus was put to death. The scriptures say the two on either side of Jesus were criminals being executed for their crimes. The man on the right asked for forgiveness and was granted salvation, the man on the left died still carrying the burdens of his sins.
For years and years Jesus’ cross has been a symbol of his love and his salvation given to us. But the other two crosses are symbols as well. I’d like you to use the powers of your imagination for a second or two and picture in your mind a rocky hill. Silhouetted against the darkening sky are three crosses. The one in the middle is the tallest and Jesus occupies it the other two are empty. Suddenly you find yourself at the base of Jesus’ cross looking into your eyes he asks you, “Which cross will be your choice?”
Will you be like the man on the right and ask for forgiveness and live? Or will you be like the man on the left and one day simply die? These 40 days of Lent are to help you in choosing the right cross.
Don't forget it's the right cross that knocks Satan out!
Grace & Peace,
Gary
