Is Job understood to be a real, historical man, or is his story a parable?

Well Wesley's son, I imagine it depends on who you ask. I believe Job was a real literal person.

XMM did a pretty good job of summing up the non-consensus concerning Job. Here are some that I havee run accross
A stroy to confront the decay of Judah during Hezekiah's reign (I personally find this one entertaining because it calls the traditional view too specualtive and then avers another speculative time frame).
A parable to discuss theodicy (Probelm with theis view is that the book never really tackles the issue in a way theodicy-ites like.
The account of an historical individual.
There are more, but that is a rough sampling. I lean towards the third option.
