What a crazy-nutso book! Some friend of mine in college let me borrow it. It's all about this pastor of some huge church who goes through disaster after disaster, losing meaning in his life, finding out hypocrisy in the church, and becoming a wreck. But then it gets all cheery. Still, the lessons from this book are to let God out of the box, mostly. In modern Christianity we sometimes put God in a box by saying "If x happens, God has to do y." It's like we think God lives by a certain lawbook, and this is how he deals with us, not like a real, living person, but a slave to law. This is what shocks the Pastor when the first disaster,

*SPOILER!!!!*

his daughter dying in a car accident, goes against his law that God responds to the faithful by always responding affirmatively to persistent praying.

Ultimately he finds out that this world is not just, and that the evil and the good can be just as happy or unhappy on this world. It's at Judgement when the suffering of the good is paid off, and the unsaved are finally given what they deserved for their immorality.
*END MR SPOILER*

Anyway, the book is full of some cool stuff, and you must all read it. Read it soon and respond to this thread so I can feel I did something important.

Sounds interesting, sounds like a story I might be able to relate in some ways to a lesser extent...

Remember reading about Job's friends? How they thought the bad stuff was happening to him because of sin, because of x, becasue of y, but his friends were all wrong? The word of faith movement makes the same fallacy as Job's friends. :frown:
