...that I thought of this poll.

How many animals have you hit/runover while driving?

1) None

2) 1-3

3) 4-7

4) 8-12

5) 13+

6) I burned my drivers license. (and/or don't drive)

While you're at it tell us what kind of animals they were (hopefully there won't be any two legged animals :egad:)

I think I've run over one or two squirrels, though not entirely sure. So i'm sticking with the 1-3, but if you count insects.....

Where is the "I don't know and don't want to know" choice?

Can't remember. A few squirrels. Even a little Bambi-like fawn. :frown: I was driving Plymouth Horizon at the time... not a very high clearance. Left some dents.

He didn't have to jump out of the woods right in front of me. :sigh:

I've hit many insects, which count as animals, but like Tfbandie I'll assume we're talking about larger animals. I clobbered two big birds on separate occasions... the same type of bird, on the same road. I have no idea what they were. It was in Japan. Apparently they don't have very good perception abilities. I wasn't trying to hit them, they just walked right in front of my car.

A couple opossums and a duck that just happened to land right in front of my car. I felt kinda bad about the duck, but there was no room or time to swerve. My guess is that it was migrating north at the time, flying against a cold front. Sometimes they'll pass out from exhaustion. I can't think of any other reason it would land right on a busy street like that.

I was picking up my brother once and I ran over a snake.

It was already dead, I think, but I don't care. I don't like snakes.

I've hit 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. (and no I didn't plan any of them regardless of how it looks) One of the dogs actually survived, but not of his own merit. The thing was just laying in the middle of the residential street like it was his bed or something. I swerved to miss it just about the time it decided to get up and move. I ended up running over it's foot. But the dog was laying in the road again later that week. *shakes head* Stupid dog!

Also if you seen any other posts between Penguin and Cirisme's posts, it's all in your head. :noid:

Too many to count- but the worst was when I hit 2 raccoons crossing the road together. I went back later and one was gone, and that just made me feel more depressed..poor little thing. :bawl:

I think I have only hit a few squirrels. I was riding with my husband one time though and he ran over a tiny little baby goat- right before it struck him he screamed, "BAAAAAHHHH!!!" really loud (the goat, not my husband). It was so sad! :bawl:

1 porcupine

Better watch out, those porcupines are vengeful creatures.

The Asparagus whacked me in the head with a guitar and our van got taken out by a mad porcupine, then another one got me...**BOB turns around and shows his back side with the quill sticking out.

Just a deer and an armadillo (by the way, you can't straddle an armadillo in a Taurus).

As a side note (and mostly addressed to someone in this thread who is currently unknown as I am too lazy to scroll up and check), never swerve to miss an animal. Back in his patrol days my dad worked many an accident (quite a few serious) caused by someone swerving to miss an animal.

I try to drive slow enough in areas that I know animals will be so that I can stop if I see something furry step into the path of my car. Some times ya just can't help it though. I might have hit something once, like a vole, but I can't be sure, coulda been a leaf.

None...Thank Goodness......and if I see a catapilar or snail or anything on the road, I pick it up and place it in a more safer place.......For me the idea that I could drive and kill and living being was enough reason to never drive a car ......so I do not even have a drivers license. My hubs is getting insane.....every bird I see I go like "watch out!" Insects.....yes.....it turns my stomach.......that is another kind of car-sickness.....

I was talking to one of the ranchers out here where the folks raise horses, cows and hogs. He said if you hit a cow or a horse, they're more likely to flip over your vehicle if you're driving a family car, but, he said, if you hit a full grown, 1,200 pounder, your car will flip over it.

yikes

We have moose and elk and deer to worry about around here. You don't want to hit one of those, let me tell you......

I ran over a cat. I was so sad because it looked like it wasn't a stray, but it had no coller on so I couldn't even apologize to the family. I did everything I could to avoid it without getting in an accident. I had a kid with me that I was babysitting and he cried so hard.

I almost hit a turtle on the road, the poor thing was trying to cross a relativey busy highway, made it halfway without being hit. I slammed the brakes ran over and grabbed it, picked it up and put it off to the side of the other road by a pond.

So, except for the already dead snake I talked about earlier, I guess that makes none.
